Mercedes Blends Tech And Nature At CES 2020

CES 2020 has come to a close, and we could not be more excited about all the interesting new automotive tech concepts the biggest brands are starting to explore. It’s been awe inspiring to witness what Tesla has done to charge this industry. Since putting the EV market on the map, we’ve seen the Porsche Taycan, Mustang EV, and Cybertruck demonstrate what the road ahead has in store.

So leave it to automotive pioneers Mercedes-Benz to take this surging technological shift and combine it with with the organic. Behold, the Vision AVTR, a revolutionary concept that combines the industry benchmark engineering of Mercedes, with the organic nature designs found in James Cameron’s Avatar film (series?). Merc’s first priority in this project is Design and UX, with this in mind their engineers have implemented what they are calling the stretched “one bow” design, giving the entire project an appearance as if it were hewn from Tree of Souls.

The user interface is based entirely on your biometrics, gone is a traditional dashboard and steering wheel. Instead you’ll find the “control unit” which brings the car to life upon physical contact, passengers will immediately be recognized by the car based on their unique heartbeat and ECG pattern. The entire system will be based on your gestures, allowing the rider to access every function in a highly advanced menu and functionality system. Mercedes has stated that this is to truly merge human and machine.

Under the skin (bark?) of the AVTR are huge conceptual leaps in sustainable, eco-friendly, EV tech, the likes of which would make the cleanest Tesla Model S shake in its tires. Using recyclable materials, and graphene-cell building technology that seems like science fiction, Mercedes has developed compostable batteries. Which means much like our trees and forests nourish our Earth, so will the materials from this vehicle return from whence they came, to grown and give life yet again. On the rear of the AVTR, there are opening bionic flaps, which not only look totally cool, but allow the driver to communicate with the outside world. In the below gallery you can see what appears to be a Male AVTR displaying it’s “Stop Spines” as I am now calling them. Not only that but the rider can control the front and rear axels independently, to allow the vehicle to travel “like a crab.” If anyone has truly witnessed a crab’s vibe, they will tell you it’s is usually a good vibe, and its also incredible at parallel parking. Seats are trimmed with Dinamica microfibre leather, to keep the egg-like cradle seats sustainable, and the floor is built from fast-growing Rattan wood, that is ethically harvested in Indonesia.

What’s got us really tripping out are the psychedelic wheels and tires, that look to light up with LEDs, and give the whole vehicle a bug like, bioluminescent appearance. The whole car seems to scuttle its passengers around, as people witnessed briefly around the Las Vegas streets surrounding CES. It’s difficult to see how they’ll handle in winter, perhaps the tires have self-injecting studs for icy conditions, and are able to excrete a super-sticky substance for high performance mode. Let’s see a Tesla Insanity Mode deal with that!

Wanna take a look? You can’t see it in person any more, but we’ve got the next best thing. Check out our High Res, super colourful, image gallery below!
