Toyota releases details for 2016 Tacoma

Toyota Toughens Tacoma

The new Tacoma will come with an updated V6, suspension, and transmission.

Canadians love their trucks and Toyota builds them like no other.

Toyota has announced details for their next model year of Tacoma, and for the price you’re going to get some pretty nifty features. First comes some body improvement, featuring muscular fender flares and some newly designed rims (we’ve got you covered for the upgrades when you smash them at Moab, bro… Broab). With the improved “Show” comes some beefier “Go” in the way of a 3.5 Litre V6 that’s been upped to 278hp and 265 lb/ft of torque, there’s a 4-banger available as well, you know, in case you want an off-road truck that’s powered by a guinea pig.

The off-road details are in line with TRD tradition, Locking Rear Differential, Hill Start Assist Control (HAC), Clutch Start Cancel (manual transmission only), Active Traction Control, and Crawl Control.  Engaging Crawl Control allows the driver to select a speed of 1-5 mph. The Crawl Control system takes over the acceleration and braking, allowing the driver to focus solely on steering. It’s a pretty interesting system that can even dig its way out of axel-deep sand, so even grandma could take this thing off road and remain civilized.

Inside you get a fancy stereo and push button-starter that will probably get clogged with dust if you intend to actually Broab this thing up. With low-end pricing hovering around $30,493 CDN at least you’ll be able to afford some Armor All wipes with the money you save.

So what do you think? Has this Japanese off-road dominator caused your Domestic truck sensibilities to quiver? Or are you just as turned off as my grand-dad would be at the thought of turning his off-road loyalty to the “Import Generation”? Do you think this thing is suited for Canadian winters? Or is this more for the Utah hill-climb crowd? Any Canadian readers take their trucks on down to Moab every year? Let us know in the comments, and enjoy the gallery where you can see the new Tacoma really taking advantage of those suspension upgrades.
