Concept art for Ariel’s next big thing. A buggy.

Founded in 1902 as a motorcycle manufacturer, Ariel has had a revival in the past decade. The company is most famous for its blisteringly quick creation Atom. But the British automaker has decided to change things a bit to expand its portfolio. Their efforts started off with the Ace motorcycle, and now the company has launched the Nomad. The Nomad is basically Ariel’s take on the off-road buggy. The automobile is awaiting its debut at the Autosport International show, which is held in UK.

Both Atom and Nomad feature a visible tubular steel frame. The frame is CNC-machined, laser cut, phosphate-and-powder-coated, and bronze welded. The major difference is that the Atom was created to be driven on tracks and roads, whereas the Nomad is designed for the off-road, the rough terrains. The wishbone suspension is fully adjustable and it incorporates Eibach variable springs and long-travel Bilstein shocks. The variable springs give the Nomad 82-degree departure angle, 71-degree approach, and 12 inches of ground clearance.

The Nomad is powered by 2.4-liter four-cylinder iVTEC engine that has been taken from Honda. The engine can produce a max of 235 horsepower and about 221 pound-feet of torque. The car also comes with a six speed transmission gear, hydraulic clutch, and a limited-slip differential (LSD). The vehicle weighs only about 1,477 pounds and can fire up 0-60 within a matter of just 3.4 seconds. The Nomad can also reach a max speed of 125 mph.

To keep such high speed in check, the automaker has blessed this off-roader with 240 millimetre disc brakes along with adjustable balance in both front and rear. There will also be wheel options between 15 and 18 inches. Yokohama tires are obviously the proffered choice here, but riders may choose to get another brand.
