The first generation is going away, what will the next Hyundai hot hatch bring?

The second generation of the Hyundai Veloster has been confirmed, putting an end to the rumors that it will not be released. During an interview at the Detroit Auto Show Mike O’Brien, product planning vice president of Hyundai Motor America, said:

“Don’t write its epitaph yet…We have the same team that has been working on Santa Cruz that is also working on the next Veloster.”

Santa Cruz had turned out to be one of the premier vehicles of Detroit and became a huge surprise and was appreciated by many people. It was a concept car that also became a unique offering among the various pickup trucks which were presented at the show.

The Veloster turned into a special car in the US market from Hyundai. The vehicle enjoys good sales even today where coupe cars go out of popularity too fast. As O’Brien said, “Typically coupe-like cars have a very sharp product life cycle. They spike and then in the third year they plummet.”

Of course, this is the cause for the development of the Veloster’s 2nd generation. According to the report from reviewers, the total number of sales of this vehicle for 3 years is only under 100,000. However, Hyundai is more interested in promoting its brand than having more sales.

According to O’Brien, Hyundai considers the Veloster as a vehicle which goes beyond simple sales statistics and is actually pushing the brand of Hyundai. O’Brien said that it “…continues to attract really young buyers, very enthusiastic buyers…probably our most enthusiastic buyer group.”

Hyundai believes that more than any other group youths love the Veloster. This is the reason why the company regards youths to be its most enthusiastic consumer base. Many of its vehicles are targeted towards the young segment.

After the company released the original Veloster, it also brought out numerous new versions of the car including R-Spec models, Turbo model and other special editions. At present, there is no reason why Hyundai should stop supporting this famous model. With the Chicago Auto Show coming up, Hyundai will possibly bring out a new special edition of the vehicle once again.
