New Volkswagen Golf Racer Announced
Volkswagen just wants racers in their Golfs
The German automotive Megacorp just released images of its new, 330HP Track Beast for use in a world-wide Touring Car championship. It boasts everything you could want in a track car, a great big wing, super sticky Michelin tires, a rollcage, flappy buttons for the DSG transmission, and hoodpins; who doesn’t love hoodpins?
It’s got a body kit that will give even the most hardcore Tremblant time attack veteran a semi, and the latest announcement is that it will be aggressively tested under competition conditions. So basically they’re gonna advertise their track concept to tracksters on tracks. Sounds like a foolproof and efficient marketing plan, and those two adjectives are about as German as it comes.
It’s a beefier, juicier Golf R, which means it will likely be very expensive for a 4-door hatchback. The number of doors is confusing, since there’s only one seat. Sounds like an enthusiast’s dream and a soccer-mom’s nightmare.
The primary question that arises when a race-edition gets unveiled is “How far can you really extend a platform?” Do Canadians really want a race-spec golf? Is there a market for this in Canada? It doesn’t appear like Volkswagen thinks so, the testing will be taking place during race weeks in Asia
