Electric Cars on the Roll

To all those who are passionate about cars and speed, finally the automobile industry is going to face a tremendous revolution. According to Audi, by 2030, about 40% of the luxury cars will fall into the rhyming categories of EV, HEV or a PHEV.

Audi

An EV is a full-on Electric Vehicle that has already been launched by Telsa in the sports class. A model S Luxury Sedan is up next in their list and should be there in the market by October, 2014, while BMW’s super stylish EV cars are next in line, and will be launched in late-November or early December, 2014. While the latter will come with a price tag of around $63,000, the latter’s price will loom around $91,000.

HEV or Hybrid Electric Vehicle, as the name suggests, blends the pros of both electric and non-electric vehicles. The combination of electric and petrol mechanics helps in improvising the economy by lowering the emissions. However, this type of cars can go only a few kilometers at most solely on electric powers.

Although Toyota’s Pirus is one of the sorted-after cars with an HEV feature, it is rather Lexus that made the HEV one of the pioneer technologies in the market.

If it’s the best that you’re looking for, then PHEV or Plug-in Hybrid Vehicles are the ones. Their mechanisms allow coverage of commuter-style distances solely on electric power, sans any emission. As the name suggests, the batteries are chargeable through office or resident power plugs, and not through petrol or other diesel engines.

According to reports, Audi is launching their first PHEV in Australia by the end of August as a part of their “teaser” show, while the sales will be open to everyone by early next year. Surprisingly, these PHEV super-stylish luxurious cars, during the teaser phase, will be showcased and used as “taxis” at the Hamilton Island Race.

The A3 e-ton Sportback is equipped with an electronic power system and a 1.4litre petrol engine that can work in conjugation as well as separately. However, the best thing about the car is that it has the potentiality of traveling up to 50kms on battery solely.

The automobile giant, Lexus, has said that it does not yet harbor any plan of switching from HEVs to PHEV or EV; their immediate plan is to launch a hydrogen vehicle. Well, that sounds promising. Let’s wait and watch!
