Civic Type R still coming, just later.

Honda Civic Type R

Relax bros, bros… relax, be patient bros, it’s coming bros, relax bros.

Fans of Honda who have been crying for performance models for a long time now were happy at the news that the new Civic Type R from the Japanese manufacturer was supposed to be an answer to their prayers. While the car is very much coming in the U.S, it is going to be quite a latecomer and could come as late as in 2018.

At the New York Auto Show, John Mendel, Executive Vice President of American Honda Motor Co., had announced that the new Type R would be hitting the shores of the U.S. But he recently confirmed that the new Civic Type R will not be coming up in 2016 and could be released in 2017 or even as late as 2018. “It could be an ’18 by the time it gets here,” he admitted, before adding that he hopes that a 3-year delay does not actually happen.

According to the grapevine, the Civic Type R for the U.S is likely to vary from the European version. However, the rumors are not going to be true, given the fact that it is the same Civic 5-door hatchback being sold in Europe, on which the Type R is based, that will come to the U.S buyers.

John Mendel, on being asked whether the U.S model will be vastly vary from the European version, replied in the negative. He added, “You’re looking at the same concept that the Civic Type R has always been.”

Mendel was not forthright about the price tag of the vehicle and suggested that the pricing could be majorly influenced by the exchange rate of British Pound vs. U.S. Dollar when it will be released. He did not specify the exact amount of sales that the car could enjoy, although he said that the company hopes that it “could sell a couple thousand a month”.

But those who cannot wait for that long can go for the 10th generation turbocharged Civic sedan that Honda will release soon for buyers in the U.S. and would come with a new 1.5-liter turbocharged VTEC engine. Mendel said that it would be one of the quickest upgrades from the Honda stable.
