Porsche Leads Top 20 J.D. APEAL Study
Porsche’s “Standard of Excellence” has proven itself true
For at least the first 90 days…
J.D. Power just released the results of their annual APEAL study. That stands for “Automotive Performance, Execution, and Layout.” That abbreviation means, in basic terms, how satisfied people were with the features of their new car, inside and out, after the first 90 days.
The German luxury brand also took home top honours for the Macan, Cayenne, and Cayman.
Here’s the Top 20
- Porsche

- BMW
- Mercedes-Benz
- Audi
- Land Rober
- Lincoln
- Cadillac
- Infiniti
- Lexus

- Volvo

The list is based on a 1000 point scale, Porsche scored a 874, as you can see the top 10 is all “Premium” brands, it’s understandable that the list would get topped by these badges. If we eliminated those brands you get a list that looks more like this.

- Volkswagen
- GMC
- Ram
- Buick
- Ford
- Kia
- Chevrolet
- Mazda
- Scion
- Dodge
- Chrysler
- Subaru
- Honda

Our condolences to Smart which tanked. The industry average was 798, and the tiny 3-bolt scored a dismal 683.
So what do you think? Does this mean luxury cars are always better? How about Mini which managed to beat Volvo and Acura? Like most industry news, Canada was not involved in the study. Do you think the numbers are different for Canadians?
