2016 Ferrari 488: GTB This Is It

The Ferrari 488 GTB

Ferrari’s newly designed 488 GTB, coming in 2016

A V8 has always been in the entry level Ferrari, ever since the 308 was introduced in the mid-1970s. But all that changes with the Ferrari 488 GTB, which comes with a 3.8 L turbocharged engine with 660 hp and can help you to get from 0 – 60 kmph in 3 seconds.

These days, restrictions on emissions have started to stifle auto manufacturers. This is slowly and steadily leading to the demise of naturally aspirated, high-revving engines. The doing away with the NA V8 proves that this extinction has also reached the doors of Ferrari. High-revving engines, clearly, seem to have reached a dead end.

The 488 GTB remains the first ever mid-engine V8 turbo Ferrari since the F40. The new 660 hp engine in the 488 GTB is set to be more powerful with approximately 200 hp more as compared to that of the F40. However, it is also bulkier than the iconic vehicle by 1,000 pounds more – although it is still 45 pounds lighter as compared to the 458. However, this is not a point of discussion any more as its performance is undoubtedly more power-packed than the 458 Speciale.

Although both cars have a similar acceleration, there are no more similarities. It can help you get from 0 – 125 kmph in 8.3 seconds, which is a second quicker as compared to the Speciale. The peak speed is a minimum of 205 MPH. The 488 GTB is quicker by a second as compared to the Speciale and 2 seconds quicker as compared to the 458 (which it substitutes) on the private test track of Ferrari – the Fiorano.

The 488 GTB, as compared to the 458 – which is the previous version – is smoother and more refined in appearance. It seems like Ferrari has spent quite some time in making it quicker. The car is set to make its debut at the Geneva Show.
