Porsche just took Tesla down a peg.

Today the electric car industry was shaken to its core. Porsche has unveiled it’s final road-going version of the Taycan (formerly the Mission-E concept). They’re calling it the first sustainable sports car, even though it’s a 4-door.

You may be asking, what does this mean for Tesla? Well the answer is complicated but to keep it short “A colossal challenge.” Porsche has engineered the holy heck out of this car and (from the press release) “By 2022, Porsche will have invested more than 6.6 billion dollars in electric mobility.”

In a confusing move, Porsche has named the first trim levels Turbo and Turbo S… but they’re electric… so there’s no turbines… Guess it’s supposed to attract the purists, and indeed the Turbo S is faster. From the release
“The flagship Turbo S version of the Taycan can generate up to 750 horsepower (560 kW) of power in combination with Launch Control and overboost, while the Taycan Turbo can produce up to 670 horsepower (500 kW). The Taycan Turbo S will therefore accelerate from zero to 60 mph in 2.6 seconds, while the Taycan Turbo can complete this sprint in 3.0 seconds.” Great! That’s fast!

Some other cute features are what they are calling “Foot garages”, little slots for the rear passengers to stick their feet. A interior that looks mostly “switchless” utilizing entirely touch screens, even on the passenger side. They’ve also chosen to use an 800v voltage system as opposed to the traditional 400v. This should mean quicker charging for owners, and more efficient energy recovery. The recovery is so good in fact that the motors can actually torque themselves down instead of the brakes. Porsche predicts this effect will preserve brakes so well that they have had OEM brakes specially coated to preserve their look (as most brakes can oxidize and appear tarnished when they’re not used).

But enough bla bla about stats, we know you come here to scope out the pics! Our Hi-Res gallery is below 🙂 Enjoy!!
