Maserati Alfieri to be ‘a True Sports Car’

Maserati is saying the Alfieri will be a “True Sportscar.” Will it be able to compete with the 458s and the Huracans of the world?

The stunning Maserati Alfieri is set to arrive to showroom without much of a change, as the CEO of the company has ensured. The vehicle is being billed as a competitor to sports cars, and is set to challenge the likes of Jaguar F-type, Mercedes-AMG GT and Porsche 911 which rule the segment.

The Alfieri concept comes with the same 4.7 L, V8 engine which can be found under the hood of the MC Stradale and can produce 383lb ft and 460bhp. But the production Alfieri is set to come with the 404bhp and 325bhp V6 engines of the Maserati.

The car was revealed first in 2014 at the Geneva motor show in concept form. It derives its name from Alfieri Maserati, who is one of the 4 brothers to have founded Maser – the famous sports car manufacturer. The design of the Alfieri has been inspired by the 1954 Maserati A6 GCS race and road car. The chassis of the vehicle is based on that of the Maserati Granturismo MC Stradale, and comes with the same Brembo calipers and carbon-ceramic brakes. The final production of the vehicle is anticipated to have a weight of about 1400 kg.

It is likely that the final production of the Alfieri concept car will come with a sizeable central infotainment screen. Its 2+2 interior is finished in a type of material which resembles the oxidized steel finish which can be found on the race cars of the 1950s. The central console boasts of an oval clock, gearbox lever and seat garnishes which are polished from single-piece aluminum billets. These are anodized and hand-finished in a natural copper color. All of the other aluminum components, which include the steering wheel spokes, gearbox paddles and pedals, are palladium color anodized.

Saad Chehab, marketing boss of Maserati, says that the company is working hard in making the Alfieri “a true sports car”. He admitted at the Canadian International Auto Show that the Alfieri will not completely replace the Gran Turismo. The official price of the Alfieri has not yet been revealed by Maserati, although it is quite possible that the cost of the model will be at the top range.
