Goodyear Has a Concept Tire That Generates Electricity

Goodyear announced a concept tire that produces electricity! Absolutely Shocking!!! I’ll see myself out…

At the 85th Geneva International Motor Show, the BHO3 concept tire was displayed by Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. This is the tire that is set to alter how electric cars tend to operate. According to an official statement from the company, the tires “provide a glimpse of what practical innovations may be on the horizon.” The materials present in the tire trap heat and convert it into electricity while flexing.

This unique tire aims to tackle the issue of obliterating the anxiety of drivers in charging up their electric vehicle and getting performance limited due to depletion of the charge in the battery. The objective of Goodyear was to create a tire that can charge the battery of an electric car while it is moving on the road.

Goodyear said that the tire “generates electricity through the action of materials in the tire that capture and transform the energy created by heat when it flexes as it rolls during normal driving conditions”.

This makes sure that the cars have sufficient charge in their batteries, which can help passengers and drivers get to the destinations that they want.

In a news release, Goodyear stated that the materials used in the tire “would optimize the tire’s electricity generation capabilities as well as its rolling resistance”. It hopes that the technology can add a lot in solving mobility issues in the future, as the demand for electric vehicles shoots up more and more. It also stated that this “visionary tire technology could eliminate the vehicle-range anxiety motorists may have with electric cars.”

Like regenerative braking is used at this moment in hybrids and electric cars, the tires would offer another excellent source of electricity. The tire moves air to its three individual tubes from its main air chamber by making use of an internal pump. Based on the condition of the road that the car is driven on, the tire can adjust automatically to 3 varied positions.

At this moment, other details about the tire are vague. There is only the information about a second concept tire that would be unveiled by Goodyear at the same event.
